Gli alimenti con un IG alto causano un rapido aumento di questi zuccheri, mentre quelli con un IG basso lo fanno in modo più graduale.</p><p class="" style="color:inherit;font-size:1em;line-height:1.618em;margin:0 0 1.25em 0;font-weight:normal;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">L’IG si misura teoricamente valutando <strong>l’incremento della glicemia quando si assumono 50 g di glucosio</strong>. Questa misura viene espressa in termini percentuali rispetto al glucosio puro (o pane bianco), che viene preso come punto di riferimento stabilendone un valore pari a 100. Ad esempio, se hai bisogno di un rapido apporto di energia (come dopo un allenamento o in seguito a una crisi ipoglicemica se soffri di diabete di tipo I), potresti optare per alimenti con un IG più alto.</p>
